CT NAACP’s One Million Jobs Campaign
Life after incarceration presents significant challenges. Many workforce training programs for the formerly incarcerated struggle to provide viable pathways to job opportunities, and numerous employers lack the resources necessary to effectively recruit, train, and retain individuals impacted by incarceration.
The One Million Jobs Campaign (OMJC), led by the CT NAACP, is dedicated to enhancing equity and improving the economic status of formerly incarcerated community members.
OMJC collaborates with employers committed to offering job placement opportunities that include support systems for workforce training and long-term employee retention for our returning citizens. Currently, OMJC has formed partnerships with the healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and retail sectors to create 10,000 job openings for formerly incarcerated individuals across Connecticut over the next 3-5 years.
The One Million Jobs Campaign in New Haven:
Through its partnership with various business partners, CT NAACP's OMJC is prepared to employ formerly incarcerated individuals in entry-level positions that provide pathways for training and upward mobility. We are also working alongside community organizations and the Department of Corrections to offer specialized training and support services for OMJC clients.
Before employment, OMJC will assess individual needs and determine the necessary training and skills to meet job eligibility requirements. Community-based partners and Human Resources are providing training to job applicants on interview preparation.
Once employed, OMJC clients will receive wrap-around services from community agencies to help address any systemic barriers they may encounter. Support is available in areas such as workforce training, adult education, higher education, and adult literacy.
